Baking soda yes, but bacon soda was a new one on me. This is the taste that polarises the world. While it’s been voted most popular global taste there is always the nagging doubt in peoples minds that it’s not very healthy fodder.

With that in mind there have been many attempts to recreate the taste of bacon, faking’ the bacon so to speak, with varying degrees of success. In the end there is really only one thing that tastes like bacon and that is of course bacon. Personally I’m a sucker for crumbling it over a salad, the kind of guilt balanced meal which delivers the taste of real bacon coupled with a dubious feeling of self satisfaction in not having given in entirely. Bacon people will defend it to the rind and it’s umami contribution when added to just about everything is indisputable..but bacon soda?
