A few things that caught our eye

It’s always nice to hear something positive about something you love. Nowadays of course no sooner does a report appear on one of your favourite foods or drinks, slamming it as unhealthy and dangerous, only to be followed immediately by another report singing it’s praises. Although it is one of our favourite hot beverages, coffee has had it’s fair share of bad press. Well here’s a report you can comfortably read as you enjoy your favourite daily bean beverage, your favourite pick me up, your morning jolt.
Did you realise that a cup of black unsweetened coffee has just 2 calories!! Once again it would seem that it’s not the main food or drink event that causes the problems but the side shows we tend to add to them. Gravies, sauces and sweeteners and the like are the culprits which give the main event a bad name.

Of course a lot of people can’t get through the day without their daily dose of caffeine, just like millions around the world find it difficult to get through the closed season in sports. It’s amazing how many people, (mostly men) who can’t get through the football season break. I myself find myself wandering down to the local park to watch local youth teams just to get my weekly shot of footie! It was while in the throes of football “cold turkey “ that I stumbled upon a real alternative to football-less days. Are you ready for Robot Footie? Yes I mean football played by robots. Well it happens around this time and it could just provide an alternative to those lonely evenings sans football.

The third thing to catch our eye is a celebration of one of the worlds most popular and controversial food items… the beloved rasher. In fact it’s an amazing recipe for what is in effect a “rasher tart”. Intrigued? So were we. Bacon gets a bad rap on the health side of things but as with all things moderation is the key. Not that chef Michael Smith is even moderately worried about the amount of bacon which goes in to this unbelievable tart. It’s something for an occasion. We’re not suggesting you do it every night and in actual fact if you only eat a slice or two you may not register any negative effects. This is for rasher lovers and will drive rasher bashers mad!!
