Certain things catch our attention from time to time, Things that we admire, innovative ways that people come up with to give better service and quality to their customers. We couldn’t help but notice the recent announcement from JetBlue outlining their plan to grow blue potatoes at JFK Airport. It won’t feed the world or even some of their passengers, most of the food produced is currently distributed though food banks in NYC. What it does do though is bring a green, full of life feeling, to what was heretofore a neglected eyesore. It reminds people about ongoing environmental issues especially regarding food source, mass production, etc and of course there is a huge feel good factor involved for JetBlue’s customers and indeed staff and customers at JFK in general.
Certain things had to be considered such as growing only plants which wouldn’t attract large numbers of birds, never welcome visitors at airports. With over 20,000 sq. feet of growing possibilities Kale, Lavender, Mint and Carrots are some of the vegetables and herbs grown but the plan is to grow mainly blue potatoes, the type used in the making of Terra Chips, a snack which JetBlue serves inflight. This is a blue chip investment plan to be proud of.
