Looking back over what really makes a difference

Looking back over what really makes a difference

When Applegreen decided to give one cent from every shop transaction to a charitable fund way back in 2009 there was no way to gauge just how successful it was going to be. With that first move into providing support for various worthy and needful charities a wonderful project was set in motion which was to surpass even the most optimistic expectations of all involved. At the beginning of 2016 the Charity partners for this year were unveiled, and they are Barnardos, Debra Ireland, Childline ISPCC and Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

Just so you can judge for yourselves what kind of impact this kind of support can have for the various causes, take a moment to check out this video. Nobody could have imagined how not only Applegreen customers but also Applegreen staff around the country would get behind the initiative and give of their free time and energy to produce the level of financial support reached to date. This year the fund tops the one million euro mark, a truly breathtaking figure. It’s made up of the customers one cent transaction money plus money raised in a myriad of ways by Applegreen staff organising and participating in cycles, runs, fancy dress days, charity balls, bake sales, sponsored participation in the NYC Marathon and a lot more.

So to all our wonderful loyal Applegreen customers, the Applegreen office and site staff, the indomitable Applegreen Charitable Committee led by chairman Adrian Giffney and vice chairman Olwyn Horan and of course most importantly to the Charities involved who work tirelessly to help the less fortunate and make sure that the money raised is put directly to the best use possible – a huge THANK YOU !!
