Sail for Kids – A New Adventure for Applegreen

Applegreen are excited about undertaking a new adventure and has a crew of 10 volunteer staff members doing rigorous sailing training every week in the run up to the very exciting Round Ireland Yacht Race. These very brave volunteers will be setting sail on their boat ‘Applegreen Sail for Kids’ and will be raising much needed funds for our charity partners, Barnardos, DEBRA Ireland and ISPCC/Childline. Our Applegreen sites are also very enthusiastic and are doing collections in store in the lead up to the race!

The Round Ireland Yacht Race is Ireland’s premier offshore sailing race and is held every two years by Wicklow Sailing Club in association with the Royal Ocean Racing Club. The 704 nautical mile race was first held in 1980 and still retains the original course; “leave Ireland and all its islands excluding Rockall to starboard.” The race will take place on 18th June 2016. Stay tuned for weekly updates and insights from each crew member on their journey from novice to hardened sailors!
